About Our Mountain Horse Riding Tours
Gansbaai Adventures is proud to present our one and two-hour mountain horse riding tours, which were inspired by our incredibly popular beach tours.
Why choose horse riding in the mountains?
Gansbaai Adventures has planned a route that leads you through one of the most beautiful horse riding trails in the area. On horseback, you’ll weave your way through national parks, nature reserves and the stunning Walker Bay Conservancy. You’ll also climb rugged mountain terrains on routes that were used by the first settlers in the Cape.
What Can You Expect To See When Horse Riding In The Mountains?
Expect to see some of the Cape’s most spectacular scenery and coastal vistas as you ride through kilometres of unspoiled beach, dramatic mountain landscapes and majestic indigenous forest. You will also ride through private farms and the Cape’s notoriously beautiful vineyards. A highlight of the mountain horse riding tour is the stop we make at dams filled with cool, fresh mountain water.
When Is The Best Time Of Year For A Mountain Horse Ride Tour?
Weather-wise, Gansbaai Adventures recommends the months from September to May. During the winter months, the southwestern Cape coast can receive wind and heavy rain from cold fronts, which wouldn’t be conducive to mountain horse riding tours.
Having said that, we frequently experience beautiful weather even in the deepest winter months and so, weather permitting, we also recommend these tours from July to December, which is when the Southern Right Whales visit Walkers Bay. During this time, the whales come to mate and give birth in the safe waters that stretch from the Hermanus Lagoon at Stanford past the area known as De Kelders and all the way to Gansbaai.
